BCBA Intervention Field Guide (2026)
A BCBA field guide for picking the right intervention from the function of the behavior, with five printable quick sheets for the binder or clipboard.
What you get
A 36 page field guide, and five printable quick sheets: the function map, the troubleshooting order, visual analysis and decision rules, the plan change note, and the goal decision tree. One page each, made for the binder or the clipboard. 42 pages total across two PDFs.
Who it is for
Written for new and early career BCBAs, and useful to anyone supervising them.
Why it exists
The gap every new BCBA finds within a month: coursework taught you what the procedures are, and nothing taught you how to pick one on a Tuesday afternoon with a caregiver watching and an authorization clock running. This guide covers that gap.
It follows the decision as it actually unfolds. A function to strategy map takes assessment results to a shortlist. Six filters, two of them straight from the ethics code, narrow the shortlist to a plan. Decision rules and a five step troubleshooting order tell you what to check when the data go flat, in the order that costs pennies before dollars, because the procedure is the least likely thing to be broken and the most expensive thing to change. Then plan modification, goal revision, fading, and the six line change note that survives a record review.
Three worked cases run the whole path end to end: a selection from scratch, a stalled plan rescued at the integrity check, and a mature program whose goals needed raising rather than recycling.
