Why the NCMHCE is different
The NCMHCE stopped being a knowledge test in 2022. It is a clinical reasoning test wearing a case study, and the single biggest reason competent counselors fail it is that they study content when they should be practicing sequence.
You are not being asked what depression is. You are being asked what you do next, and then what you do after that, with the information the case has given you so far.
Work each simulation the way you would work the exam. In Information Gathering, choose the most clinically appropriate next step. In Decision-Making, choose the best assessment, diagnosis, safety, treatment or ethics action. Then study every rationale.
Written from the content outline NBCC publishes for candidates. Nothing is taken from a live exam.
