EPPP FAQ 2026: Questions, Scoring and Domain Weights

The EPPP Part 1 is 225 questions. Only 175 of them count.

How many questions are on the EPPP?

EPPP Part 1 administers 225 questions, of which 175 are scored. The other 50 are pretest items ASPPB is trialing for future forms. They are unmarked and scattered through the exam, so you answer all 225 as though they matter, because you cannot tell which ones do.

How long do you get for the EPPP?

Four hours and fifteen minutes for the 225 items, plus short separate blocks for the acknowledgment statement, the tutorial and the exit survey. That works out to roughly 68 seconds a question, which is enough time to answer but not enough to relitigate every vignette.

How is the EPPP scored?

On a scaled range of 200 to 800. ASPPB recommends 500 as the passing score for independent practice and 450 for supervised practice, but the number that governs you is the one your own board adopted, and boards do not all adopt the recommendation. Scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular form you took, so no fixed count of correct answers guarantees a 500.

What are the eight EPPP content domains and their weights?

  • Assessment and Diagnosis, 16 percent
  • Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues, 16 percent
  • Treatment, Intervention, Prevention and Supervision, 15 percent
  • Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior, 13 percent
  • Growth and Lifespan Development, 12 percent
  • Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior, 11 percent
  • Biological Bases of Behavior, 10 percent
  • Research Methods and Statistics, 7 percent

Which EPPP domains carry the most weight?

Assessment and Diagnosis and Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues, which together take 32 percent of the scored items, roughly 56 questions. Research Methods and Statistics takes about 12. Candidates routinely spend more weeks on statistics than on ethics because statistics feels difficult and ethics feels like something you either know or you do not. That instinct is expensive.

What is EPPP Part 2?

A separate skills exam. Only some jurisdictions require it, so ask your board rather than assuming, because the answer varies and it changes what your timeline looks like.

Is 70 percent a passing score on the EPPP?

No, and the question does not translate. Because scores are scaled rather than reported as a percentage correct, two candidates can answer the same number of items correctly on different forms and receive different scaled scores. Use practice percentages to track your own progress over time, not to predict the result.

How long should you study for the EPPP?

Find out where you stand by domain before you build a schedule, then weight your weeks against the percentages above instead of splitting them evenly. Studying all eight domains at the same intensity is the most common way to spend four months and still walk in underprepared on the two largest ones.

Our Psychology Licensing Exam Complete Prep bundle is built to that blueprint, and the practice items follow the same domain proportions as the real exam, so a section score tells you something you can act on.

Score yourself by section

The free EPPP mini exam is 40 questions across all eight content areas, with a written rationale for every answer. Score it by area rather than overall, then put your next study hours into the area furthest behind its weight. No card and no code.
